Chase Recap:
After chasing on the 7th in North Texas/Southern Oklahoma, I arrived back in Norman after 11pm. I took a quick nap before showering and heading to the airport to pick up Andrew.
All night drive
Andrew was coming back from Indiana so I picked him up at the airport and we headed north. After driving all night, the sun came up as we were driving through Council Bluffs. We acquired breakfast and a car wash near Blair before heading up towards Spencer, Iowa. With the 55mph speed limits in rural Iowa, this took awhile.
Convective Initiation near Heron Lake
We crossed into Minnesota and sat under towering cumulus near Heron Lake. Radar didn’t show anything, so we kind of stuck around to get on the storm near Sioux Falls by heading back southwest to I-90 in Worthington. This would put us in catch up mode to the original updrafts we were under, which would produce a tornado near Mankato. We were about 10-15 minutes too late (Seems to be a recurring theme in Minnesota for me) for the storm and got to it as it became a mess north of the boundary.
Heading to Des Moines
We got a room in Des Moines that evening and met up with a friend at Buffalo Wild Wings. I was extremely tired and slept extremely well that evening. We needed to get back to Norman the next day so I could drive to DFW for a flight to Philadelphia.
